13 wedding trends that will be all over this year’s publications and websites (including this one).

I know we’re already 3 months into the year, and I  am behind, but I’m finally finally getting around to creating content for you guys and I think wedding trends are just a fun place to start.

I’m all about the need to keep and ditch whatever trends that do or don’t suit you, but I think reading about unique things or continued trends can be a fun place to start, but if you’re like, “nah, these aren’t us” then you do what feels like you. ALWAYS.

1. Coral

Pantone’s color of the year is always an inspiration for wedding professionals. Color this year is coming back after seemingly endless white and neutral palettes. I’m slightly terrified of color, but I think people that can pull it off (especially in spring and summer) make for unique and eye-catching decor.

Other colors that people say will be a thing: burgundy, turquoise & emerald.

2. Simple boat-neck dresses

Meghan Markle’s dress is just too close to 2019 to forget about. I think the simple, sheath style is insanely elegant, and apparently others do too!

3. Bridal jumpsuits

It feels like people are switching from lace and vintage to glamorous and trendy. Both looks are ones I will forever get behind, but I think Ciara Ferragani demonstrated the perfect marriage of lace and incredibly chic. We can’t all get our dresses custom-designed, but we can sport a surprise romper or pants if we so please!

4. Picking vendors carefully

I love the idea of using your wedding to support small businesses or female-run companies or offering a donation in exchange for a wedding favor… there is a lot of money in this industry, and if you feel the desire to spend it in a way that’s socially conscious and builds others up… that is pretty cool.

5. Eclectic bridesmaids’ dresses

I am so happy this is still a thing this year, and hope it stays. I love the idea of letting your bridesmaids get a hand in what they wear so that the wedding can stay affordable and comfortable for them. Mixing and matching dresses, letting them purchase whatever they want in a specific color scheme or just picking non-traditional gowns: that’s where it’s at.

6. Connecting with your guests

One of the truly hardest parts about being a bride and/or groom is that the day goes by like *that.* All of the sudden you can be done and saying “goodbye.” Extending this time with guests in an affordable way can make the transition from bride to wifey a little easier and allows you more time to spend with your favorite people.

Brunches, lunches, excursions, game days, etc. are a way to extend the weekend and keep your guests closes by. Also, a lot of professionals are recommending more personal touches to wedding favors and welcome bags- like hand-written notes or helpful tips like your favorite places to grab a coffee. This can make these things more affordable while also showing your guests that you truly want this to be their weekend too.

7. Dahlias & more greenery

Since color its coming back, dahlias, peonies and ranunculus are predicted to be popular for bouquets and arrangements this year. Natural arrangements, as opposed to the contrived, perfect ones will still be a thing and loose greenery is always welcome- especially for an affordable way to do table arrangements.

8. Industrial weddings

Less barns and more brick and metal will be the rage this year for venues. I love the idea of finding a slightly beat up space and showing it off in a chic light.

9. Geometric stationary details

Lines, triangles, shapes, oh my. This more modern approach is very different from the fancy calligraphy-style we’ve been seeing lately, but I think it pairs well with simple sheath gown and industrial backdrops, if that’s your thing.

10. More food stations!

I’m always a happy camper when I attend a wedding and can eat burgers or tacos or BBQ or pizza, so this permanent wedding guest is all about this trend staying alive another year. The most important thing is to remember that food personalization is about making this day reflect the couple + it can oftentimes be cheaper than your typical filet & fish meal. While this takes a little more coordinating, I also love the idea of serving “Abuela’s paella” or “Mom’s seven-layer taco dip”… a nod to family and traditions can connect your guests deeper with you. You can either have a catering company replicate or see if some relatives would be willing to pitch in.

12. Unbalanced wedding parties

If no one has ever given you permission to have more bridesmaids than groomsmen or to mix genders on either side, please oh please know you can do it. You want your people standing next to you, and the amount or gender is totally irrelevant to wedding etiquette bullcrap.

13. Floral installations

This is an expensive one, but yet again, Chiara and Meghan have this trending and for good reason. It can completely transform doors, a wedding arch, a wall… but don’t do it unless you really have money to blow. Some sites say this could be upwards of $10K.
