Like most things in life, being in the wedding party as a guy is a lot more chill than being in the wedding party as a girl. There aren’t as many expectations or as strict timelines. That being said, you should still make sure you’re dotting your i’s and crossing your t’s, so you can make the groom’s life as simple as possible.

I wanted to share this awesome (and super Pinnable) graphic that Personal Creations made and offered to let me share with you guys. It really breaks it down in the simplest way, so I’m going to do the same:

Pre-Wedding Day

  • Offer support in away way you can. I’m sure it really depends on the groom, but I would suggest asking him how it’s going and if there’s anything you can do every now and then.
  • Help the best man plan the bachelor party.
  • Attend the bachelor party.
  • Attend any couple showers (you can purchase this gift off their registry or make it something more personal).
  • Order your suit/tux, get it fitted and pick it up.
  • Purchase shoes, belt, socks tie, suspenders, etc. Make sure to check with the best man and/or groom to see if there are any specific rules regarding color or style.
  • Purchase a gift and card for the couple (you can purchase this gift off their registry or make it something more personal).
  • (Optional) Purchase a gift for the groom.
  • Book your accommodations for the night before and the night of the wedding

Day Before the Wedding

  • Attend the rehearsal where the wedding planner and/or officiant will explain what you have to do day-of. Don’t worry it’s pretty simple!
  • Attend the rehearsal dinner. Attire for both can differ. Typically it’s cocktail attire for the rehearsal, but it’s really dependent on what the couple wants and should be listed on their invite.

Wedding Day

  • Meet the groom and other groomsmen in advance of the wedding to get ready. Wear casual clothes there, but bring you suit/tux and all its accessories.
  • (Optional) Give the groom his gift.
  • Offer to help in any way you can. If you see guests in the lobby of the hotel that are confused or anyone turning to the groom, try your best to step in. Take as much off his plate as possible so he can enjoy the day.
  • Do the whole walk up and walk down the aisle thing. I’m sure you’ll nail it!
  • Take photos with the wedding party.
  • Make up some sort of fun reception entrance with the bridesmaid you’re paired with.
  • Stand near the couple during their first dance and then sit at the designated head table.
  • Make sure drinks are readily available for the groom and that he’s having fun.
  • Help bring the gifts and other personal items to whatever car it needs to go to after the reception.
  • (Optional) Attend the after party.

After Wedding

  • Help clean up in any way that’s necessary.
  • Attend the post-wedding brunch or meal, if there is one.
