Okay, first of all you may think this is not a big deal in the wedding planning process, but yo fave IMOH is here to tell you it is! Sure, a vision board is one of the more inspirational rather than actionable things I’m going to teach here, but I feel it actually helps you better execute your actionable items with better efficiency.

There are two big problems when it comes to picking your wedding style and colors:

  • It can be super hard to narrow down what style you want.
  • It can be super hard to articulate what style you want.

“Uh like a light blue, but with green tints, but not too green or too blue.” That would be me explaining what color flowers I wanted to my florist. Instead of stumbling my way through that awko-taco convo, I had my vision board and could simply say, “I want that.” My vision board saved me from getting something totally off from what is in my head and saved time going back and forth with my vendors until we got to that perfect point.

I also think I didn’t really know what vibe I was going for until I put all my favorite images together. I knew the venue first, so I decorated around that and it ended up being pretty rustic and having a lot of neutrals and greens in it. I wouldn’t have necessarily expected that from myself or have known my style was “rustic,” until I put it all together and could see a few key adjectives stand out.

When you create your vision board, I think it’s important to start big and narrow down.

Where to Make Your Vision Board

  • You can simply create a wedding Pinterest board. Keep it private if you want your big day to be a surprise for guests OR make it a group board that you let your mom and MOH contribute to, if you want their input.
  • Polypore.com is a great tool that helps you to add text, images and products to a little square board. It’s a little more limiting in the choices, but does have a lot of things you can purchase directly from there once you’ve designed the perfect board.
  • If you have the programs and are proficient enough in them, Adobe Illustrator/ InDesign are great places to design your boards. That way you can drag and add directly from different sites online and even photos on your computer.
  • You can go the old fashion route and make it on poster board or bulletin board. I love to print out things, tear apart magazines and paste it all together like a scrapbook. Using a poster board allows you to write little notes and add things as need. Using a bulletin board allows you to subtract items, great if you’re likely to change your vision a lot.
